GPS got them in trouble

Three Norwegian tourists fell into trouble – one of them was shot – when the car's satellite navigation system led them to the most dangerous areas of Rio de Janeiro. 24-year old Trygve Killingtveit was shot in the arm most likely by drug dealers from one of the gangs, that control Rio's miserable neighborhoods. When tourists were returning on Saturday from the seaside town of Buzios, three hours drive from Rio de Janeiro, they lost their bearings – Brazilian media reported. As they told the police, GPS recommended them – as the shortest route to the airport, where they were supposed to leave the rented car – leaving the main road. The indicated route, however, led to the slums, where they began to be shelled. The motive for the attack was not given and there were no arrests. The injured driver managed to leave the favela. A family in Norway, he said, that he got lost due to a malfunction of the GPS system – writes the Norwegian daily “The daily newspaper”. The Norwegians shortened their holiday in Brazil and left for home on Monday.
