World population by religion.

According to a recent study (based on a world population of 6,9 billion), there are affiliations to religion :

  • 2 173 180 000 Christians ( 31% world population), of which 50% they are Catholics, 37% Protestants, 12% Orthodox and 1% inside.
  • 1 598 510 000 Muslims (23% world population) , of which 87-90% to sunnici, 10-13% Shi'ites.
  • 1 126 500 000 Belonging without religion (16% world population) : atheists, agnostics and people, who do not identify with any particular religion. One in five (20%) in the United States, it is religiously independent.
  • 1 033 080 000 professes Hinduism (15% world population) , of which the overwhelming majority (94%) lives in India.
  • 487 540 000 Buddhists (7% world population) , half of them live in China.
  • 405 120 000 folk followers (6% world population) : confessions, which are closely related to a specific group of people, ethnicity or tribe.
  • 58 110 000 Other religions (1% world population) : Faith of the Baha'i faith, Taoism, Jainism, synthoism, sikhizm, tenrikyo, wicca, Zoroastrianism and many others.
  • 13 850 000 Jews (0,2% world population) , four-fifths of them live in two countries: United States (41%) and Israel (41%).
