The police are handing out smuggled caviar
The spirit of Christmas makes itself felt in the ranks of the Italian police. Delicious beluga caviar confiscated from smugglers will go to the festive tables of the poor and homeless – the policemen from Milan decided. Italian police intercepted the cargo over 40 kg of this luxurious specialty worth approx. 400 thousand. euro. Last month, two men tried to smuggle caviar from Poland to Italy. They intended to sell the goods to shopkeepers from Milan and the Lombardy region. The confiscated cargo was stored by the police in cold stores for many weeks. However, just before Christmas, officials said, that the treat will soon become unfit for eating. – We researched the food and it turned out, that it is still in perfect condition. But it won't last long, so we decided to give them to the poor – told Juri Mantegazza to an Italian newspaper reporter ”Corriere della Sera”. A small amount of caviar was saved by the police for the purposes of the investigation, the rest was donated to charities, kitchens for the poor and nursing homes.
– For all, what we get we are very grateful. Even if most of our pupils do not even know, what are these little black balls – Father Virginio Colmega says with a smile, who helps run the Relief Home in Milan.
