“Harry Potter and moral values”
Harry Potter as a promoter of moral values and good, as well as the epitome of dark forces, spells and manipulations – such two portraits of the famous little wizard are presented in the Vatican daily “The Osservatore Romano”. The newspaper published two articles on the hero of the saga JK Rowling – enthusiastic and definitely critical. The first text emphasizes, that the Harry Potter books “present a vision of a person who is guided by moral values, such as choosing the good, offer, sacrifice, friendship and love”. In the article entitled “Not the force of success, but the humility of self-giving” its author Paolo Gulisano recalls, that it is a saga for children and adults, for the generation reading little more than texting. A mimo to – he adds – these books have been extremely successful and have millions of readers. In the next article titled “Wrong image of the hero” Edoardo Riali points out to this, that these books propose “as a positive value of the spell, violent manipulation of things and people thanks to dark knowledge”. In his opinion, these novels cannot be compared with the works of Tolkien and Lewis, “Christian authors of the most beloved fairy tales of the 20th century”.
In the opinion of Harry Potter's opponent, these stories teach “vague New Age spirituality” and encourage escape from reality. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
