67-the year-old chose hypnosis instead of anesthesia
A threat to anesthesiologists or just a medical curiosity? In the UK, the operation was performed without anesthesia. The patient was a 67-year-old woman, who has entered a state of hypnosis herself. The woman underwent routine knee surgery; a scalpel and an invasive procedure were used. Nevertheless, the patient felt no pain, because earlier she had entered a state of absolute relaxation. I was aware all the time. I imagined it, what the surgeon does. As if I climbed into my own knee – she said after surgery. In her opinion, this is how anyone can get a handle on pain – it's a matter of mental training – underlines. However, an anaesthesiologist was on duty in the operating room, just in case.
