A four-ton Easter egg in the Market Square in Świdnica
A stone Easter egg weighing four tons, nearly two meters high, was placed on the Market Square in Świdnica. The unusual egg will be on display until the end of Easter. As Agnieszka Dochniak from the Świdnica City Hall said, “the egg was carved by three masons, who had been working on it for three weeks”. The egg, carved from one rock block, was placed in the center of Świdnica on a special one, granite plinth. It was necessary to use a crane to set it up. The Easter egg was given to the inhabitants of Świdnica by the owners of a stonemason's company from Strzegom (Lower Silesia), Bogusław and Tomasz Solima. Tomasz Solima emphasized, that the work had to be done by hand, because it is very difficult to extract oval shapes from the stone. – We are not afraid of challenges. We also carved a 20-ton elephant, which stands in front of one of the shopping centers in Wrocław – added the stonemason.
The egg was painted by Hanna Keller-Tomaszewska from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. After Christmas, the Easter egg will also be shown in Strzegom and Jedlina Zdrój.
