In Sicily, family doctors “they treated” more than 51 thousand dead, by charging the local insurance company for it – discovered by the Italian Financial Guard. As it results from the estimates given on Saturday, on this basis, the doctors got a total 14 million euros. Even the deceased are on the lists of patients 20 years ago. The Financial Guard has not yet accused anyone of fraud or extorting money, because it is not mutually exclusive, that this could be the result of negligence due to the lack of clear rules about it, who is responsible for reporting deaths to the insurance company: regional authorities, municipalities or the doctors themselves. Already in 2007 a similar situation was found in Sicily – at that time, doctors from this region received a total of 5 million euros.
