The obese passenger won with the airlines

Air France is to refund the ticket and compensate the passenger, which by virtue of its extraordinary weight – 170 Kg – had to buy an extra seat on the plane – he handed over the journal “The Parisian”. The precedent verdict in this case was issued by the second instance court in Bobigny (department Saint-Denis). By court decision, Air France is to return the passenger 500 euro as a refund for an additional ticket and 8 thousand. euro compensation for “moral damage”. Forty-year-old Parisian Jean-Jacques Jauffret two years ago on an Air France plane from his vacation in India. He was informed at Delhi airport, that due to the large number of passengers it is impossible, as it usually happens, leave an empty seat next to the obese passenger. So Jauffret had to buy an additional ticket, because – as explained unceremoniously by Air France employees – “when someone is so fat, must buy two seats”. In addition, the airline staff subjected the passenger to humiliating measurements with a tape used for luggage. As Jauffret's attorney said after the hearing, “the court's verdict proves, that airlines carry passengers, and not just kilos”.
