Paper from marsupial feces

Paper from marsupial feces

A company from Tasmania found an unusual way to deal with times of crisis. She started producing eco-friendly paper from wombat manure – medium-sized marsupial. Paper has become immensely popular with tourists. The ingenious company Creative Paper previously produced paper from kangaroo droppings, however, it was not as successful as the wombat-inspired product. Paper obtained from the excrement of this lovable marsupial is sold as a typically Australian souvenir. The basis of the wombat diet is grass, roots, bark and leaves of trees and shrubs. The high content of plant fibers makes, that their droppings are perfect for the production of innovative paper. Company boss Darren Simpson admits, that the manufacturing process itself is not pleasant. “Won, which comes out while cooking the raw material is terrible, however, no trace of it remains afterward. You can only sense pleasant, organic fragrance” – he says. Simpson passes, that the idea of making paper from wombat excrement comes from tourists, who asked, whether the company is able to produce paper also from sheep or koala droppings.

However, it was the wombat that they asked most often. The only supplier of the raw material is a pet named Nugget living in a reserve near one of Tasmania's most visited tourist destinations, Cradle Mountain. Every day the wombat keeper collects its droppings and sends them to the factory.
