Phone bill on 63 millions of euros
44-a disabled summer resident of a small town in eastern France could not believe her eyes, when she saw the last phone bill. He praised the… 63 millions of euros – almost seven times more than the operator's capital, which services she used. The woman was first informed, that France Telecom will not provide services in the area, where he lives. Then she was encouraged to use the new operator's subscription. When signing the offer, the 44-year-old did not know, that at the same time she undertook to settle the bills of several companies that collect penalties from customers who are late or avoid paying by phone. At the address of a single woman with very modest earnings, bills of ever larger amounts began to flow in. Not knowing what services to pay for, she stopped paying other bills – apart from these, which concerned her use of the telephone, but she was seized with a paranoid fear of each delivery – she was scared, that they would take her house and put her in prison. The case was referred to the Consumer Protection Bureau, where it turned out, that the dishonest operator acted in a similar way in many cases – they were always people, having difficulties understanding the text of the contract.
