Cheap glasses for everyone – will adapt themselves to the defect
A retired physics professor designed cheap glasses, which you can adjust to your eyesight defect. Profesor Joshua Silver, once an Oxford lecturer, he came up with the idea of universal glasses, available to people in poor countries every year 1985. 20 it took him years to design the model, that could be produced on a large scale at low cost. Strong plastic lenses are combined with thin ones, flexible reservoirs. You can add or take out liquid using small syringes, by changing the focal length. After disconnecting the syringes, the glasses can be used as normal prescription glasses. Thanks to a program backed by the British government, thousands of pairs of glasses have been experimentally distributed in poorer countries. However, the intentions of prof. Silvera are more ambitious – would like to, that one million pairs are distributed every year in India. Over time, it intends to reach a worldwide level 100 million pairs of glasses a year, up to a year 2020 – billion.
