Essential Killing, J. Skolimowski - review
Skolimowski's film can actually take a long time, this was the ending for me, but that to such an extent - I will use colloquialism - to follow it? I have been browsing the internet and hardly anyone wants to write about the positive qualities of Essential Killing. Pictures, they are not special, the plot raises doubts, dialogues - actually their lack. Fine, but let's look a little differently - it's realistic cinema, unusual and at times surprising.
This story is about an Arabian, which is an important target of US troops. In my opinion, this in itself deserves attention. The main character may be a terrorist, and it is his fate that we will follow. Mohammed is caught after killing three soldiers, quite controversial scene of firing a rocket launcher at them. He goes to questioning, where he is held in inhumane conditions. While transporting a prisoner to an undefined place, I manage to escape, this will be the beginning of his struggle to survive.
The point of view of a man of Arab origin seems to me to be the greatest advantage of Essential Killing. How many mainstream movies are there that deal with the topic of war in this way? Everyone has the right to remain human, however, the production of Jerzy Skolimowski shows how difficult it is in terms of being humiliated by every person you meet. Mohammed's actions bear witness, that she is an intelligent person. Happiness helps him, however, determination plays the most important role in the escape. The will to fight for life does not resist frost, lack of food or a constant sense of danger.
I don't focus too much on the flaws, because I think a lot of them have already been pointed out. For me, the film started to bore me only near the end - the very ending with the rest is hopeless. Overall, I liked the forest climate with sub-zero temperatures. The director probably exaggerated at times with the inserts of Polish dialogues. Poles come here more than once, some texts may seem funny - some poor ones. The movie is in English otherwise, there is little speech in him. We look at the actions and this is the only way we can perceive Essential Killing. I will give an exceptional rating. I was thinking about a seven, but it's probably too much. Normally I'd put six, but as I can see how bad the movie is, which I don't think I deserve, the knife opens for me - in my pocket.
Rating: 6,5/10
