Hackers are threatening virtual cash

Hackers Charles Miller and Dino Dai Zovi discovered a vulnerability, which enables Linden to steal dollars, virtual currency functioning in the world of Second Life. The problem is critical, because online money is convertible into real US dollars. The problem is related to the QuickTime application, which Second Life uses to play video sequences. Dean Takahashi describes how the vulnerability works: “The bug can be exploited because Second Life allows users to post video clips and photos. When another player passes near such an item, the game launches the QuickTime player and redirects to a website. Hackers can take advantage of this moment, to direct the user to a specially crafted website and, as a result, take control over a given avatar ". As a result, it can lead to virtual cash theft.
