Hallucinogenic mushrooms now illegal, but…
The sale of fresh hallucinogenic mushrooms is prohibited by law in the Netherlands 1 of December, but the Amsterdam authorities decided, that they won't be there for now “actively enforce” this prohibition. According to a spokesman for the city authorities, Mayor Job Cohen wants first “explain the issues of competence” with the government. The point is, whether the enforcement of the ban is to be done by the police and the prosecutor's office, or rather municipal services. During the weekend, hallucinogenic mushrooms were still traded legally in Dutch smartshops, but the media reports, that they could also be bought on Tuesday. It is all over the Netherlands 180 smartshops, including approx. 40 in Amsterdam. The ban on the cultivation and sale of fresh hallucinogenic mushrooms was introduced after the debate, caused by the suicide death of a 17-year-old French woman, amateurs of hallucinogenic mushrooms, who threw herself off the bridge in Amsterdam. Although no formal link has been established between eating the mushrooms and her death, Most Dutch MPs demanded that all forms of such mushrooms be banned.
The sale of dried hallucinogenic mushrooms has long been banned in the Netherlands.
