They recover gold from… sewage treatment plants
A wastewater treatment plant in Japan recovers more gold from the water-filtered waste and scrap, than the best gold mines in the world. One ton of sewage contains approx 1890 grams of gold, while in one of the most famous Hishikari mines, only one ton of gold ore is mined 20-40 grams of precious metal. According to experts, the high gold content in the wastewater is related to the large number of enterprises using machines with gold elements.
