British volunteer physician based in Rutshuru, Democratic Republic of the Congo (former Zaire) performed a successful amputation of the arm based on text messages from a colleague – the BBC reported. 52-annual Dr. David Nott, vascular surgeon, performed a complicated procedure that saved the life of a 16-year-old, though he had never done so before. The boy's left arm was torn by a hippo and gangrene burst into it. Nott, permanently employed at a hospital in West London, he spoke, that he had doubts, but the boy was dying and when he met him, he had no more than three days to live. Then he decided to contact a colleague, who has done amputation before. “I sent him a text message and he wrote back, giving step by step instructions” – explained Nott.
