The council was founded in 1949 year. Initially, it was based on economic cooperation. Over time, the countries belonging to the Comecon exchanged more than just goods, but also technologies. The countries belonging to Comecon determined a common economic strategy, also shared the most important production sectors. Comecon was dissolved in 1989 year, when the first communist states began to reform their system and economy.
