The surprising effect of small fruits
Grapes help lower the risk of heart disease in people who eat a salt-rich diet. American scientists conducted research on two groups of rats at risk of heart disease due to a high-salt diet. One group was given a blood pressure medication, while the other got powdered grapes. There was a significant drop in blood pressure in both groups, but the rats fed the grape powder had less damage to the heart muscle tissue. According to the researchers, the protective effect of grapes is due to the flavonoids, that is, natural antioxidants, which trigger the genetic process of protecting the heart muscle. The study showed, that in order to obtain a similar protective effect, a person should eat a minimum 135 grapes a day.
