Rain has already been taxed
Inhabitants of Ravenna, in the north of Italy, have to pay tax on rain – informs the log “The Republic”. The local water and sewage company issued an order, according to which the costs of disposal of the so-called. meteorological waters, that is rainwater. Italian newspaper highlights, that a storm combined with a downpour can raise the water bill even by 3 percent. The rain tax is movable – depending on the intensity and frequency of rainfall. Thus, the plant of water supply and sewage, reaching into the pockets of residents, decided to solve the problem of the rising costs of maintaining the water drainage system, sewer manholes, cleaning the streets flooded with rain. As calculated the plant in Ravenna will thus obtain this annually 3 millions of euros. This idea was supported by the authorities of the city and the entire province. Numerous consumer protection organizations and civic associations immediately protested against the introduction of this peculiar tax, which have announced that they will bring the case to court. In their opinion, adding rainwater disposal costs to your water bill is as ridiculous as this, if the costs of street lighting were added to the electricity bill.
Opponents of the fee were backed by the Ministry of Environment, which called for the regulation to be amended. You cannot pay tax on rain – argues the resort.
