Americans bust myths

Does sugar make children hyperactive?? Do we lose the most heat through the head, and eating at night leads to obesity? American researchers contradict some of the claims heretofore considered to be certain… Researchers at the Indiana University School of Medicine looked at several lingering beliefs and tried to prove them false.

Many parents of children in the United States, for example, are convinced, that giving babies sweetened drinks, sweets and chocolate make them hyperactive.

After examining 12 cases turned out, that there is no evidence that sweetness has an effect on the temperament of children. The parents, however, were not persuaded. They argued, that their children became obnoxious even after that, as they were served unsweetened drinks (while the parents were convinced, they are with sugar). The idea is simply the most ingrained in the minds of parents, but definitely not true…

It is similar with the loss of heat through the head. As it was frosty, winter time, many people put on caps and hats. In fact, they are right, because warm clothes are recommended during cold winter. However, scientists stress, that's not true, That 40-45 percent of heat is lost through the head. They insist, that this part of the body is not special in this regard. If that were true – they say – “people would be just as cold, if they went outside without pants, as if they were walking in the cold without a hat.”

Another myth, which scientists from the state of Indiana decided to deal with, is the fear of eating at night for fear of obesity. Some do (apparently and probably only in the USA), if only they didn't eat at night, they don't get fat. According to scientists, this is obvious nonsense.

Certain studies done in Sweden may at first glance prove the truth of this claim. Namely, obese women indicated then, that they generally eat more at night than lean women. However, it turns out, that overweight ladies simply ate more meals around the clock, including overeating at night.

So the only true statement may be, that people gain weight, if they eat more calories than they can burn – American scientists emphasize.

By the way, perhaps they do not make you hyperactive, but overfeeding children with sweets and sweetened foods can lead to obesity, diabetes and fungal diseases.

Walking without a hat in the event of several degrees of frost can also end badly, especially for our sinuses and ears. On the other hand, overeating at night certainly promotes obesity, even if it is not the only cause. So let's think about it, is it worth exposing all myths, because maybe they serve something…
