The authorities say, that rat meat is easy to get. After the flood in the Mekong Delta, the rats go ashore to save themselves from drowning. The villagers catch them, and even children, having fun with both “hunting” for them and for small money, which they earn thanks to this. A representative of the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, Ly Marong, said, that not only in this country there is a demand for rat meat. Poor Vietnamese also eat them. Is estimated, that Cambodia supplies Vietnam with about a ton of live rats a day. Rat meat has long been popular also among the poor people of Thailand.
