Why does hair and nails grow after death
There is a general perception among the public about this, that both hair and nails continue to grow after we die. It seems to us, that they are made of dead tissue therefore, they keep getting longer even after our death. Already at this point you can see the dissonance in this thinking: if the hair is dead how can it grow? Hair and nails are living things made of protein.
Actually, a few more hours after the cessation of vital functions, some cells in our body are constantly alive and multiplying. This is the case with these organs of the body. However, these gains only last a few hours and are absolutely not noticeable to the human eye.
After death, our body shrinks. My muscles cramp, the volume of the skin decreases. We are getting smaller, while our hair and nails remain the same size. As you can see, the fact that nails and hair grow after death is the result of an optical illusion, which we succumb to.
