He neutralized the shark with a blow to the eye

An Australian diver neutralized a 3-meter shark with a blow to the eye, which was already half swallowed – local media reported. 41-year-old Eric Nerhus was swimming around Cape Howe in South-East Australia with his 25-year-old son and friend, when he was attacked by a great white shark, the largest predatory shark. The animal engulfed his head and tightened its jaws on his torso. The swimmer did not give up and dealt a strong blow to the shark in the eye. Then the man withdrew from the attack.

“When did he come to us, he was conscious, but he had a broken nose and was ragged on both sides of his chest – there were teeth marks everywhere” – said a spokeswoman for the emergency services.

Nerhus told friends, that he hadn't noticed the shark, because visibility was very poor in the water. “He did not see, as it comes, but he felt his teeth, and then he started being shaken. Then he realized, that it is in the mouth of a shark” – tells local diver Michael Mashado.

“Eric is a strong guy. It has an Olympic form. He had more chances of winning the lottery than of getting out of the situation alive. Anyway, I think, that he would prefer to win the lottery” – his friend Dennis Luobikis said.

The swimmer is in the hospital. He's in heavy duty, but stable condition.

From 2000 R. 10 people in Australia died in shark attacks.
