There are cyclists in Tychy
Tychy is the first city in Poland, which installed a professional device for counting cyclists in road traffic. Thanks to the precise measurement, the city will be able to apply for EU funds for marking and modernization of bicycle paths. The cyclists counting device is located in the vicinity of the Paprocany Recreation Center. I work from 30 April. A sensor in the form of an induction loop placed under the surface of the bicycle path counts each bicycle passing by. Advanced technology and a specially developed algorithm allow you to eliminate cars from the calculations, pedestrians and skaters – representatives of the city hall emphasize. Tychy, with a population of nearly 140,000, stands out from many other Polish cities with its highly developed infrastructure for cyclists. Thanks to detailed calculations, it will be possible to further develop it, with the help of the European Union. – He's in town right now 45 km of bike paths, and there will be a total of them under the project 72 Km – said Liliana Bielas-Kostyra from the Department of City Development and European Funds at the Tychy city hall. Precise information on bicycle traffic in the city has been needed for a long time.
So far, estimates have been used. However, the Union requires precise information, how many cyclists use the given trail. Then it will finance the marking and modernization of paths. Measures in the amount of approx 1 Tychy will obtain PLN million from the European Regional Development Fund under the Central Subregion Development Program.
– 1 PLN million is the amount granted conditionally, now our application must be positively assessed – Bielas-Kostyra explained. The sensors for measuring bicycle traffic used in Tychy have their own power supply. They can be built invisibly in the path. Cyclists don't even realize, that they had just been counted. The induction loop used is the first such system capable of detecting and counting cyclists in all types of traffic.
