Dial M for Murder - review
Hitchcock in great shape. The film is intriguing from the very beginning. It gives chunks of information to encourage reflection, but that's it? What is it actually about, and why yes? It quickly satisfies our curiosity, however, not for long. The production is based mainly on a simple assumption, there is a man who has an elaborate plan. He organizes everything and wants to implement it, but will he succeed? I had an association with The Killing (1956) Kubrick, although this is something else entirely. Dial M for Murder is for every lover of good crime fiction. The film keeps you in suspense until the last moments. A positive feeling of uncertainty accompanies us throughout the entire show.
Direction: Alfred Hitchcock
Scenario: Frederick Knott
date of production: 1954
Type: Jail
Starring:
Ray Milland: Tony Wendice
Grace Kelly: Margot Wendice
Robert Cummings: Mark Halliday
It's just curious, I don't remember the moment I would have thought, that an ad break would be nice either, to go away for a moment for anything. Almost all the action takes place in one room., is it not a masterpiece? Tony discovers, that his wife is cheating on him, blackmails an old friend, to kill Margot Wendice. The actors play as they are supposed to, I have no objections to them, although I admit, that none of them made any special impression on me. There are no under tightening in this video, there will be some good ones, but the plot is so sensible, and the characters' behavior is logical, that it is difficult to have any objections. For example, a fact may be surprising, how calmly the husband wants to get rid of his, probably once beloved. What's wrong with this movie? I invite you to the discussion.
For Hitchcock fans, there is probably nothing to recommend at all, because it is a must-have. I liked it more than North by Northwest, for it less than Psycho. The climate is quite moderate, like in Rear Window, but more dynamic. The fact may be surprising, that he got so few awards. In fact, it was only appreciated a few years ago. Previously, he only had nominations. Bafta - for the best actress and DGA - for directing achievements. Quite possible, that someday I will come back to the film. Unfortunately, knowing the entire course of events, I don't think he can charm me like he did the first time.
I take care of Dial M for Murder 9 place for 10 in the thriller category for the best American movies of all time.
Pros:
– great storyline
Minuses:
– too short (105m)
Rating: 8/10 – very good
