I don't think he will surprise anyone, that it is the same as the first part, only in Bangkok. I even liked the previous version, the very idea of a big hangover is really good. I rated last year's version at 6 on a scale to 10, so the latest rating is one step down. Not because of, it's a bad movie. This is why, that when you stand still, it actually goes backwards, and the Hangover in Bangkok did not dare to move forward.
When someone watched the first part, they already know what Hangover II is about (The. title). One of the heroes is getting married. Two days before the ceremony, he meets with his colleagues, with an assumption, that won't happen the same as a year ago. They don't get drunk, do not get stoned with unknown drugs. Of course it does and our heroes wake up in some dingy apartment in Bangkok, not really knowing how they got there. Now they have to pull themselves together and get to the wedding. Unlike the first part, the scene in which they are hungover is like this 20-30 minutes, not at the beginning.
I love a couple of movies, which can be more or less called party. Brilliant Human Traffic, or, for example, the infamous Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, or Trainspotting - it's more serious. I won't put Hangover on the same shelf with my favorites. This movie has an interesting idea, surprising though it is schematic. It seems to be something with no climate - and if there is a climate it is of very poor quality. I like it more, when in Trainspotting a guy who danced with a transvestite playing a "tough guy" starts scandalizing without a council, than when in The Hangover the main character wants to cry after a similar situation. I prefer to listen to Johnny Depp from Las Vegas Parano, when it lists over 10 various drugs he will stuff himself with, than the funny fat woman who poured some powder into the marshmallows. And finally, I like the psychedelic atmosphere of Human Traffic more, than the "hit" Hangover.
Todd Phillips's new movie is average, but you can watch it. How someone liked the first part for sure, you will like this one more or less. I can recommend an episode of South Park referring to the movie - in my opinion it is better than The Hangover - South Park - City Sushi. Unfortunately, it will only be available for viewing in a month - only in English.
Why such a strange title? The original name of the movie is Hangover ("Escape"). The first part took place in Vegas, the second in Bangkok.
