72-summer resident of the city of La Spezia in the north of Italy for over 40 for years he pretended to be blind and received a disability pension. In moments, when he did not have to pretend to be an invalid, he worked as a driver for a delivery truck and rode a motorbike. The man will be held accountable in court for fraud to the detriment of the state. The scammer came in accidentally during a routine roadside check. Turned out, that he does not have a driving license. When the carabinieri checked the information about him against the database, they were amazed to discover, that the driver stopped by them is listed from 1965 year as a blind person, receiving a disability pension and the allowances to which he is entitled. As if that was not enough – at the request of the Association of the Blind, he was hired as an invalid to work in the telephone exchange in a branch of the Italian equivalent of ZUS. He worked there 20 Years. Despite, that he was completely blind there, he came to work on a motorbike. When in 1991 year ended his work as a telephone operator, started driving a small delivery truck. At the same time, he was still receiving a disability pension and a care allowance. The investigation is ongoing. According to preliminary estimates, the fraudster made a total of approx 300 thousand euros.
