The biggest eyes in nature

Scientists completed the careful thawing of the body of the colossal squid, which in February last year was accidentally fished off the coast of Antarctica. Scientists want to study the animal, to learn as much as possible about this powerful and extremely mysterious species. They already found out, that the colossal squid have the largest eyes in the animal world. The eye diameter of the captured specimen is… 28 centimeters. So far, humans have only encountered eight squid of the species Mesonychoteutchis hamiltoni. The specimen currently under study has 8 meters long and weighs 454 kilograms. Scientists believe, that animals of this species may even have 14 meters in length. Very little is known about them. Apparently, they are aggressive hunters and can dive even to a depth 2 Kilometers. Scholars speculate, that they usually live at a depth of approx 1 kilometers. They are perfectly adapted to living in such conditions. They have a deep pink color, and the red spectrum of light is the first, which disappears into the depths. So animals are completely invisible under water. Experts pay attention, that recently huge and gigantic squid have become more and more entangled in the web. Trawlers appear in the waters, which have not been fished so far and reach deeper, than ever. Humans are starting to compete with giants for their food.
