Record price for a camera

336 thousand. The euro was paid on Saturday by a private collector from one of the European countries for one of the first 35mm cameras in the world – Leica with 1923 year. It is the most expensive 35mm camera ever auctioned and the second most expensive camera ever. The photo camera at Vienna's Gelerie Westlicht reached such a high price, despite the fact that digital cameras have been dominating the world for a long time, and the cameras of the previous generation using photosensitive films are used only by amateurs of antiques and professionals refined in old techniques. The camera sold belonged to a few “series-0”, that is, trial, which a manufacturer from Wetzlar in Hesse in western Germany was surveying the market, exploring the chances of absolute novelty, what in 1923 of the year was a camera that took pictures on 35 mm film. About that, that the prototype series took hold, testify to millions of Leic manufactured over the next decades and tens of millions of cameras from other brands modeled on Leice (including the usual fakes), however, almost never reaching the sublime precision and perfection of the original.

Leica sold Saturday, whose body is numbered 107, according to the auction house, it was the first camera of this type intended for export. She was sent to New York, for filing with the US Patent Office. The most expensive camera in history also changed hands at the Westlicht auction. It was a daguerreotype of the Susse Brothers, the first commercially produced camera, coming from 1839 year. At the specialized Photografica auction in May 2007 the year was paid for 580 thousand. euro.
