Wireless electricity

Wireless electricity

A group of scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology demonstrated their concept called “WiTricity”. The name comes from WIreless elecTRICITY – that is, wireless electricity. Scientists from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences participated in the work, The Department of Physics and the Institute of Military Nanotechnology. The idea of wirelessly transferring energy from its source to the device is not new, but so far we could admire the devices operating on this principle mainly in films like “Star Trek”, or on the pages of science fiction books. Researchers from Massachusets staged a demonstration, during which energy was sent from the generator to a 60W bulb over a distance of two meters. Witricity uses the phenomenon of magnetic resonance. Two objects resonating at the same frequency can efficiently transfer energy between them, practically not affecting other objects in its vicinity. Scientists have described this solution, recalling the example of peace, in which it is located 100 glasses of wine, each filled with fluid to a different degree, so everyone with a different resonant frequency. If an opera singer in this room would emit a sufficiently loud tone at a certain frequency, it's a glass of wine, which would have the same resonance frequency, it would accumulate his energy and could even explode. The sound, on the other hand, would in no way affect the other glasses. These are, of course, just the beginning and the method needs to be refined. So far, scientists have managed to ship a short distance, losing a lot of energy along the way. Besides, the size of the resonating devices is quite large. However, the authors of Witricity argue, that these are problems, to deal with.
