An underground river was discovered in Rome

A second river flows below the Tiber in Rome, which can be a source of clean geothermal energy – established an Italian scientist, and informs about its discovery “Corriere della Sera”. Volcanologist Franco Barberi says, that the water in this underground river is approx 20 degrees Celsius and can heat the Eternal City. According to the scientist, former head of the Italian Civil Defense, river hidden under the Tiber, completely separate from him, it could be a source of thermal energy for many Roman settlements. On the occasion, he noticed, the use of these geothermal sources could significantly reduce environmental pollution and save money. According to findings led by a researcher by a team from Roma Tre University, an underground river is located from 30 do 60 meters below the Tiber bed and is much wider than it. In some places it can reach a width of several hundred meters. The waters of both rivers are completely separated from each other – found during the tests on the basis of samples taken in 200 places of the capital. Water in an underground river – says Barberi – it is crystal clear, therefore safe and therefore should be used in his opinion. University team, examining the river in terms of its possible use, it is financed, inter alia, by the ministry of education and the home university. “Now we are waiting for partners from the industry, to start work on prototypes of appropriate devices” – announced the head of the scientific group.

Franco Barberi expressed his conviction, that Rome, just like the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik could thus become completely independent of traditional heating sources.
